2016… This Year It Gets Personal

January 19,2016

Looking back on the first three years of Team PHenomenal Hope, we have seen an evolution of an organization that started with a team of 4 women, racing across the United States, to a team of 14 endurance athletes competing in endurance cycling, running, and Ironman triathlon events.

And now, as we embark into 2016, we bring more athletes, more events, and a greater global effort to raise awareness about pulmonary hypertension and funds to make a difference in the lives of those with Pulmonary Hypertension.

And beyond team and athlete growth, we have seen growth and continued inspiration from the PH community.

After our 2014 campaign with Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) known as Race of Our Lives, our friendships continued and grew.

We reuinited with PHriends in California on the eve of the Race Across the West 2015.

We raced in new continents, from the Philippines to France, flying the Team PH colors around the world, connecting with people along the way. And back at home, we became more involved in our local communities, participating in the 2015 Pittsburgh Marathon, with runners wearing our colors throughout the race, and at our fluid station at Mile Marker 8.

People asked about “those purple shirts,” a conversation started. And more than that, we had a lot of fun.

We Are Making it Personal

The first 3 years of this team laid the groundwork for something special, something new. It laid the foundation for the next level of where we are going, and on that foundation, in 2016, we are making it personal.

We’ve been racing with the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and the PH community now for 3 years, but this year, we look to bring you even more connection, more community, more people coming together and racing not only for a cause (raising awareness and funds to find a cure), but for people.

That’s what we’re about.

there is still so much work to be done.

We have met so many special people along the way from all over the world, people living with PH, or working to help those with PH, or to find a cure.

We’ve met people who inspire us, and developed not only connections but also friendships.

We’ve also lost friends and patients, a reminder that there is still so much work to be done.

When we looked at what our fans and friends read and liked in our newsletter and in our social media posts, it’s the personal stories from patients and athletes that have made the greatest impact.

So we will bring you more of that – more connections, more stories, more reasons why at the core we are doing what we do.

Because This Year It Gets Personal.

We’ll be taking this one step further

In all of our major events, we will work to build personal connections.

As an example, we’ve been getting to know some special members of the PH community in New Zealand, and will be talking online in a live meeting with New Zealand patients the week before our big race.

When we get to the 2016 Pittsburgh Marathon you’re going to see something really special – the launch of an even stronger connection with the community, not only for athletes on our team, but for those who run with Team PHenomenal Hope and Mojo as Team PHenomenal Mojo.

Team PH Ambassadors

Also, you’ll meet new team members throughout the year from around the country as well as around the world when we launch our club team, the Team PH Ambassadors. These are people racing for someone special in their lives, racing with us because they feel a connection and want to use their passion for sports to make a difference.

So this year, yeah, it gets personal.

Please join us in our race to make a difference.

Please follow us and share our posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
