Pittsburgh-based Team PHenomenal Hope racers training for Brazil

Bertioga – Maresias, Brazil

October 22, 2016

Event Summary

This year, Team PHenomenal Hope is joining forces with Team PHenomenal Hope Brasil to race together in the 2016 Bertioga-Maresias, Brasil!

We race together 2016 Bertioga-Maresias, Brazil, running 75 kilometers through the most beautiful beaches of the Litoral Norte Paulista, Brazil.

We are racing for people who live with a disease called pulmonary hypertension.

This is a disease of high pressures in the arteries in the lungs that makes people short of breath, lightheaded, and can make doing the simplest tasks like walking up stairs, playing outside, going for a hike, or carrying groceries into the house exhausting tasks.

There is no cure for pulmonary hypertension.

There are 14 FDA-Approved drugs available in the USA to try to control the spread of the disease and offer an improved quality of life for patients. These drugs can be used alone or combined form (a patient uses two or even three drugs to have ameliorated the symptoms and ensure a more dignified survival).

In Brazil, the federal government provides only 3 of these 14 drugs, and only in isolation.

We are coming together with Team Phenomenal Hope Brasil to support their goal of petitioning Brasilian federal government to provide dignity to pulmonary hypertension patients, and review and revise their Federal Medical Protocol to allow patients access to all therapies available worldwide, isolated and/or combined.
