What We Do

Team PHenomenal Hope is a non-profit charity primarily concerned with improving patient services and quality of life for those suffering from Pulmonary Hypertension.

We use the spectacle of endurance racing as a mechanism to shine a spotlight on this rare disease in the hopes that, by raising awareness, we can effect earlier diagnosis in patients and therefore a positive outcome to longevity and quality of their lives.

Our US Team is comprised of about 60 people in the United States. They are a volunteer-based affiliation of individuals brought together by a common passion for endurance racing and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those who suffer from Pulmonary Hypertension.

Each US Team-member pledges to fundraise at least $500 during the calendar year. These funds are used for our PHenomenal Impact Fund for Global PH Research. US Team members also enter endurance race challenges around the United States and the world, paying their own travel and registration fees, and they race in our Team PHenomenal Hope racing uniform (each fundraising athlete is given one racing uniform by the organization).

Our International Team is comprised of teams in Brazil, Germany, and Mexico. There are about 26 members of our International Team. We provide each International Team member with one racing uniform, or the equivalent funds for them to be procured, a website (including domain, hosting, and initial set up support), and a financial seed grant for them to accomplish their own goals in their own country as a country-based team.

We ask nothing in return (i.e., no fundraising), but to qualify to wear Team PHenomenal Hope racing uniforms and receive our seed grant, the International Team goals should closely align with the Team PHenomenal Hope mission, including: a shared passion to improve patient care, raise awareness of Pulmonary Hypertension, and work in unity towards funding (financially or practically) access to medications, improved treatments, and ultimately a cure.

Though not required, our International Team partners do occasionally extend invitations to small numbers of the US Team to visit and join in an endurance race alongside them in their home country, acting as a host and guide as a PHenomenal Hope representative of their country. When this occurs, if a US Team member is willing and financially able to go, Team PHenomenal Hope will make an effort to provide a small travel grant to facilitate this multi-national race activity.

We are not only a racing team – but we do use endurance racing to fundraise for medical research into continually advancing treatments. We create and administer programming meant to improve patient services, give voice to those who have a story of PH to share, and to build community with patients, their caregivers, and those who are passionate about volunteering.

We are racing to make a difference. We are Team PHenomenal Hope!
