Heating Up for 2020
Unique and at the heart of Team PH is our Let Me Be Your Lungs program, which pairs our athletes with PH patients to team up and raise awareness and financial support of Team PH’s mission. This month we would like to draw your attention to our featured LMBYL pair, Carl Hicks and Michelle Figueras. Carl recently shared an update on our website about his upcoming race in August, just a day after his daughter Meaghan would have turned 38. Additionally, Michelle shared her inspiring PH story and journey to diagnosis. Thus far in 2019, Team PH has aided 70 PH patients by granting $35,000 through the Unmet Needs Patient Impact Fund. The patient need is still great, and we rely on your donations to keep the fund going. July recipient Kim Keen shared with us, “I am a survivor of the Paradise, California fire. Since the fire, we have weekly electricity interruptions. As I have an electric oxygen concentrator, these funds helped me to order a battery powered concentrator. The Unmet Needs Fund was an answered prayer for sure.”
Since January 1, 2019 recipients of the fund have held events and fundraisers, asked their family and friends to donate to Team PH and have held bake sales and other events to replenish the funds for Team PH to continue to assist patients through the Unmet Needs Fund. Collectively, they have raised more than $6,500 has been raised to pay it forward, and help 13 patients receive assistance.

In addition to our athletes in the United States, our global teams in Belgium, Brazil, Germany, and South Africa have recently participated in successful tours and races while raising awareness and funds to support the PH communities in their countries. We are proud of our progress this year and look forward to seeing what the rest of 2019 will bring for our organization. As we begin preparations for 2020, we want to recognize and thank those who support us, including our many athletes, patients, board members, donors, and sponsors.
