Letter from the Director: New Season, New Light
One year ago, we were thrown into the COVID-19 pandemic and immediately had to acclimate to life with many business and services shut down. Today, we have hope with vaccinations becoming available to more demographics, and businesses and services slowly opening back up. While still being mindful of social distancing and mask-wearing, we can start to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
This small sense of relief that we are beginning to feel is stretching across all parts of Team PH as well. As we welcome another season of spring, we welcome a fresh start for some of our patient focused programs.
Our research award committee is currently reviewing letters of intent to the PHenomenal Impact Fund for Global PH Research from medical professionals and researchers. This brings us one step closer to awarding $50,000 to propel PH research forward and in new directions. Mark your calendars: Saturday, July 17th will be the 2nd Annual virtual Research Town Hall where we will host research discussions and announce this year’s winner of our research award.
Our biggest funder of the PHenomenal Impact Fund for Global PH Research, the PHenomenal Hope 5K, is now less than two months away. The event is scheduled both live and virtual on Saturday, May 22nd. We would love to see as many of you as possible participate in this hallmark event. Event organizer Kayla Frattini and her crew of volunteers are hard at work making sure this event will be both engaging and safe. Find our robust COVID-19 safety measure plan here.
Like last year, there are plenty of prizes and incentives. You can sign up and learn more about the PH 5K here.
Even if you cannot attend the 5K in person you can sign-up for virtual participation and make a donation to support our endurance program, research fund, and people living with PH.
Unique to Team PH is our Let Me Be Your Lungs program. This program pairs patients with participants of our endurance program. It’s a rewarding opportunity to learn more about this rare disease and to foster community between athlete and patient. We are reopening our recruitment for both programs on Thursday, April 1. If you or someone you know is interested in running/walking a 5K, participating in a bike race, or another kind of endurance challenge, big or small, all while working toward a cure for PH or supporting our patient unmet needs fund visit teamph.org/join for more information and to join the team today!
Your support of Team PH ensures that we can continue our mission of bringing an end to pulmonary hypertension. You may make your donation online at www.teamph.org or by check to Team PHenomenal Hope, P.O. Box 1115, Beloit, WI 53512. *If you would like to learn about giving options such as stock transfers, IRA rollovers and other tax advantaged giving, please contact me directly at linda@teamphenomenalhope.org.
