Proud to do this for Ella: Carol Walker’s #LetMeBeYourLungs Experience
I’ve worked in the pharmaceutical industry for many years. I moved into the pulmonary hypertension (PH) field five years ago. This gave me the opportunity to interact with a PH patient support group, which has since become an extended family. I saw firsthand the struggles and successes PH patients encounter every day. I wondered what else I could do. The patients inspired me to raise awareness and funds for the cause, so I joined Team PHenomenal Hope three seasons ago.
This year, Team PHenomenal Hope paired me with Ella Jeffery as my Let Me Be Your Lungs partner. Ella is a beautiful four-year-old twin living with PH. While I participated in the Peloton Bike Challenge at the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions earlier this summer, Ella and I FaceTimed during the ride. Seeing her filled my heart with love and inspiration. I carry her picture during my races to remind me that when times get tough, we dig deeper. Ella is a superhero. She’s strong, funny, and courageous.
I’m going to participate in 12 different events this year, the longest being the Augusta 70.3 Half Ironman in Florida in September. I am very proud to do it for Ella.
