Solar Charger Packing Party
On Monday, May 21st, members of the PH community came together at Elmhurst Hospital in Elmhurst, Ill. to pack 400 solar chargers and power banks for patients in Puerto Rico.
Since Hurricane Maria devastated the island in the fall of 2017, patients living in Puerto Rico have suffered through a power crisis. Nearly 80% of the island was still without power until recently. Now, only 9% of the island is still without power, but hurricane season is already back beginning June 1st. Residents are worried they will experience another power crisis in the coming months.
To help make sure patients on the island can communicate with their doctors, pharmacy, and family no matter if the power is out, Team PH is working with Gilead, CVS Specialty, and Accredo to provide patients with portable solar chargers and power banks. These devices can be charged using the sun, and can store power for small batteries for several hours.
We hope this small contribution helps patients feel safer and less isolated during times of crisis. Thank you to all the volunteers who joined Team PH to pack these items and support our PHriends in Puerto Rico- it was a great evening spent knowing we can lend a hand to fellow members of the PH community. We are fortunate to be able to work together to make an impact.
