The Race Is On: Letter from the Director

May 22,2019

Spring is in full bloom and so is the racing season! Our events calendar is full of upcoming races all over the country. Last week our endurance team began receiving their new racing kits, which look pretty sharp if we do say so ourselves. Additionally, this spring we are continuing to connect athletes with patients through our Let Me Be Your Lungs program and raising awareness through this unique partnership.

On April 27, the 6th Annual PHenomenal Hope 5K grossed a recorded breaking $40,434. It was awe inspiring to see so many from the PH community play an active role in making the event a success. Event organizer Each year Kayla Frattini and her volunteers continue to coordinate an exemplary event. Team PH founder and president, Patty George was on hand with her GoPro to interview walkers and runners; see these videos here. The PH 5K supports our global research fund which will announce its first $50,000 research award in just a few short weeks.

On May 6, we celebrated World PH Day with Actelion at their headquarters in San Francisco. 16 Actelion employees competed to ride as far as they could in 30 minute on stationary bikes. PH patients James Wilson and Rita Orth were also in attendance to share their PH story and to cheer on participants. More than $6,900 was brought in to support the Team PH mission and celebrate World PH Day.

Enjoy a wonderful evening in the park in support of the fight against PH! Join us on June 20th for the PHriends4Life Concert in the Park in Southern California, organized by PH patient Ornah Levy. Donations of goods to this event are welcome. Proceeds from this event help support our PHenomenal Impact Fund for Global PH Research. For details, please contact Ornah at olevy@phriends4life.org. We always look forward to third party events to benefit Team PH. If you are interested in organizing an event, please reach out to me at linda@teamphenomenalhope.org.

Thus far in 2019, Team PH has already aided 50 PH patients by granting out $25,000 from the Unmet Needs Patient Impact Fund. The need is still great, and we rely on your donations to continue assisting patients. Since, Jan. 1, 2019 patient Unmet Needs grant recipients have held small fundraisers and reached out to their networks to replenish the money they received from the fund. Collectively, they have raised a little over $5,500 to pay it forward. We are the only PH non-profit to provide patients with unmet needs monetary support. Our patient recipients are very grateful for this assistance. Thank you for your donations to our Unmet Needs Patient Impact Fund.

You may make your donation to Team PH online at teamph.org or by check to Team PHenomenal Hope, P.O. Box 1115, Beloit, WI 53512.
